I'm fairly new to philodendron and am completely enraptured by them!! I have so many questions I don't know where to start so I'll just make a list. I appreciate any help or ideas. 1) when do you start training them on a pole? I have a peru and a cobra that have gone insane. The leaves look great but the long vines are naked. Do the new leaves fill in later? Is it too late to put them on poles? Will they still develop a root system along the vines? Do all philodendron grow on poles? I brought home a couple baby brasil and would like to start them right away. And lastly my pink princess looks great. Should I put her on a pole now as well?

    Ok... I'm embarrassed. The peru is a monster but I still have the same questions.

    You can start putting them on poles usually as soon as they start getting over like 6". I like to wait till like pencil sized petiole on philodendron. (Exception being some of the more vine like). You can just use a bamboo pole for self heading. But moss poles (real ones, not coir poles) are great for even self-heading plants.

    Naked vining can mean they need more light. They will grow outwards looking for light, and when they find it, grow leaves.
