Hey hey, I got this “fancy philodendron” on sale for $7 at Walmart today and I’m trying to figure out what it is. It gives the impression of a birkin, but the stripes and petioles have a distinct pink to them. A deep dive online found the OG grower where they call it a “philo. pink bikini,” but the lack of info anywhere else online makes me feel like it’s just a marketing ploy. Any thoughts or specific care?

Mine was labeled as “pink bikini” at my local grocery store I put it into planta as a birkin and it’s doing great i love how big the leaves are. People online say it’s chemically induced so the pink won’t last (don’t know anything about all that) but the new leaves have come out pink since I got it 6 months ago 🤷🏼‍♀️

Ok sweet that’s helpful! What kind of soil are you using if you don’t mind me asking? The soil it’s currently in seems pretty moisture retentive.

It’s in the same soil when I got it from the store actually so probably crapy lol the pot it came in has a little empty space in the bottom where it gets smaller so I put a cotton string in the bottom of the plastic pot to make it like a self watering pot and just bottom water it when planta tells me it’s time that way it doesn’t get too saturated hopefully that makes sense

They’re a highly unstable variety, just like the normal birkins, so a lot of people’s revert. There are also chemically induced plants so you may lose the pink. It really just depends what you have but I dont know that there’s a way to tell the difference other than waiting… Gorgeous plant btw! I’m gonna have to find one
