April

I’ve had this plant for several years and it was doing so well then suddenly in January it started dropping a lot of leaves all at once. I’ve since trimmed off the dead ones, but I’ve noticed a few more starting to turn. It also has had at least four or five new leaves that have yet to unfurl for a while now. I thought maybe it was killing off some of the old leaves so that the new ones could open but they’re just not opening. I repotted it last year and it’s been doing well since then until now. The only things that changed lately was the amount of light due to our Christmas tree being in the window from mid November through mid January and we got an RO unit installed the end of November as well, but my other plants haven’t seemed to have a problem with the water. The RO unit even has a cartridge that puts calcium and magnesium back into the water. I’m still fertilizing & watering as usual per Planta’s schedule (I did try to extend the time between waterings a little when it started doing badly thinking that maybe due to the lower light over winter I might be overwatering it.) I also don’t understand why some of the leaves are twisting away from the light of the window. I’m at a loss right now and this was one of my favorite plants so any help or advice is much appreciated!

As much of a hassle it is id check the roots for any rot, etc.

Ok, I thought of that but then wondered if disturbing the roots would stress the plant even more. I’ll give it a try, thanks!

Good luck and let us know if you find out the issue is root rot. Maybe you could start a propagation from this plant now since this is your favorite plant🪴

So I repotted today and realized that the original root ball has not grown at all since I repotted into this tea cup pot last year in February. I guess maybe the pot was too big of a size up but it’s all I had at the time. This time I put her in a plastic nursery pot with more drainage holes and set her in the planter. Nothing looked diseased, actually very dry.

I would check for mites. Or just spray for them, since theyre impossible to see sometimes.

i know you are worried but she actually looks really really good i can’t imagine how it looked before and im sorry you’re going through this but if its any consolation she still looks amazing! try upping the humidity maybe that’s why she’s having trouble pushing the new leaves out

Yeah I think humidity might be a factor too because it was such a cold winter, the heat ran constantly. Now the humidity is higher so I hope she gets better. I’m going to take her outside and repot her this week. She was just so full of leaves and now she’s scrawny lol.

I only use distilled water for this plant. Try that. I’m pretty sure it will fix your problem.
