I was helping my friend rescue her overwatered white princess yesterday and put it in a better pot and soil with more drainage, and this little guy with roots came off so I took it home! The tiny green leaf used to be bigger but was completely rotting away from being so overwatered so I cut it off. What do we think the chances are of it surviving? I gave it a decent amount of food and added some rooting powder as well to help it as much as possible, and lowered the height of my grow light lower so that it could get enough light. I really want it to keep growing!!

    Unless it has a massive root system, I don't see that little guy surviving long term in a pot that size. Plants should be in pots no more than 1 inch larger than their root balls; larger pots hold water too long and you'll soon find yourself in the same boat as your friend. If I were you, I'd repot into a properly sized pot, maybe add a little rooting powder again and then care for it as you normally would for this plant. Let the first 1/4 of the soil dry before watering again. If it's in a smaller pot, there's no reason it shouldn't flourish under your grow light!

      I don’t know where I would be able to find a plastic pot this size with the right kind of drainage, would you suggest moving it to a terra cotta pot about this size, or much smaller? For reference the roots on it are about 3-4 inches long, so definitely needs a smaller pot. This is what I had on hand at the time

      I would be more comfortable keeping a philo in plastic, even if I had to get creative. Terracotta dries out much quicker and requires more attention and watering. That said, if you're someone who doesn't mind a little babying, terracotta would be fine! For a plastic pot that small, depending on where you're located and what you have access too, you could try a local garden center, home improvement store, dollar store (maybe, might be too late in the season), or order online from Amazon or another retailer. If you're wanting something the right size with the least amount of work: •get a plastic container- something you can poke holes into easily, like a small deli bowl or fast food dressing cup depending on how big it needs to be to fit all the roots •CAREFULLY poke holes in the bottom of it- I use a screwdriver and stab it; make sure you go from the exterior to the interior so those rough edges are on the inside!! •add soil and plant and you're done!

      Ok I’m gonna diy a container as soon as I get home today!! It’s already starting to get pretty sad and it’s only been a day so I emergency put it in some dry soil this morning in hopes that it helps balance out the moisture.
