Can someone tell me why my PPPs leaves are curling like this? I water as the top inch is dry. Right now she’s sitting in my bathroom as I’m repainting the room shes is usually in, but this issue started prior to being moved. I have another PPP and she’s doing just fine and I treat them both the same. This one has been pushing out such beautiful pink leaves, I’d hate to see them wilt away 🥲
This probably isn’t the issue, but philodendrons need to be watered way less often. I let almost all of mine dry out completely before watering, and for the ones that can’t go that long, I wait until the leaves start to curl down slightly around the edges.
1 Like I ended up pulling her from her pot and I think the specific pot I had her in was just too big for her roots. Luckily no root rot, but the soil was still pretty saturated at the bottom and I haven’t watered in about a week. I added more perlite and orchid bark to my mix of Fox Farm soil and I think she will like this mix a lot better! Just gotta finish putting my house back together so she’s in her normal spot. Given she was pretty well hydrated, do you think I should saturate the soil like normal after a repot?
1 LikeI’ve never noticed it making a difference whether I water immediately after repotting or a day later. However, it watering it immediately can help prevent transplant shock.

I agree with Riley. It’s most likely overwatering and possibly underlighting. The more light they get, the more they can handle high water levels. Especially if she’s not getting bright light then she won’t be able to cope with that much water and can pretty easily get root rot. This can often look like droopy leaves, because once a root is affected it loses its ability to absorb the water. Then the water is sitting there even longer and the cycle continues. It can affect one plant and not the other because it’s really a combo of overwatering and certain bacteria that take advantage of that situation, so the other pot might have a slightly different microbiome going. I’d gently wiggle her out of the pot and see how it looks. If you see lots of vigorous, white/light brown roots then you’re probably okay. But if the roots are more brown, a little more translucent, or you’re not seeing them overall then the next step would be to replace the potting medium and remove any unhealthy roots to stop the spread.
1 Like Sound good! She gets pretty solid light from the window and I have a smaller grow light for additional lighting. This mix in this soil is well draining, but I have a feeling it’s just not enough of a well draining since I haven’t been watering her very often.

No root rot thankfully; the pot she was in, I think was just too larger for her to soak up all the water in the bottom since it was still pretty saturated and I haven’t watered in about a week. I reported with a much chunkier blend of soil, orchid bark, and Pearlie for better draining. Do you think I should hold off on watering her in her new pot for a day since she was pretty well saturated?

0 Likes She’s in a smaller pot now and hopefully that will allow her to really take up that water and have less retention on moisture.
