Evening everyone. Just a quick question as I’m not very experienced with philodendrons. I bought this beaut today called a Florida ghost but when I look online I don’t see any with the distinct variegation like the half and half on one of the leaves. So my question is, is this normal for a philodendron Florida ghost? Thanks 🙂

Ooh this is such a good question! I have been looking into buying one of these and theres a ton of conflicting info. Pedatum “Florida beauty” is the original plant. “Florida ghost” and “variegated Florida beauty” are either sports or hybrids of pedatum and squamiferum but I don’t think it’s been verified? As far as I can tell young “Florida ghosts” can throw variegated leaves but they turn green as they age. The “variegated Florida beauty” is a “true variegated” plant and will actually hold onto this variegation throughout its life.

There’s a blog post from greenplantmom that’s pretty good!

Thank you. The more I’ve read the more confused I’ve become so I sent her an Instagram message to see if she can shed some light too

Huh that does look like a ghost, but I also haven’t seen a half white leaf on a ghost 🤔 Could be a little genetic blip. They’re related to Florida Beauty, which has more sectoral variegation like that. So maybe this one’s a little in between the two in a way

I think it will be a waiting game to see how it grows up to see what it more definitively is. It just that one half moon leaf that has me confused 😂
