I pick up this pink princess tomorrow as a rescue. I’m told the dog knocked her over and she’s lost most of her leaves. Any pointers on how I can best help her grow beautiful pink leaves again? How long should I expect it to take to bring this back to health? This will be my first philodendron.

Pink leaves are really based in the plant’s genes but you can create ideal conditions to help the plant grow to its full potential. Chunky substrate like coco chips mixed with perlite, high humidity (65%+) and bright indirect light are the recipe.

These grow pretty fast so have patience it will grow faster than you think as long as you give it bright indirect light, a humidifier, and stay on a water schedule. Make sure your substrate of choice has drainage. I prefer the lechuza pon in a self watering planter, mine is thriving in it

I don’t have a humidifier for it. Is misting sufficient (along with watering, of course)?

Don’t mist your plants ever, I know this app suggests it but I promise you it will only cause fungal & bacterial infections. Get a humidifier and a fan. That’s the only way to go for any plants you have. Honestly if you can’t get a humidifier & small fan, it’s not worth it to have plants that need humidity. You could get cacti & succulents though

I grabbed a little humidifier I remembered I have. It’s a little smaller than the pot and I have it right next to it now. Do I also need a fan? Moved a couple other tropical plants near the humidifier, too (croton and plumeria).

Yes you do… especially if the humidity is 70 degrees and above

I’d just cut off the damaged leaves, put it a couple feet from a bright window and make sure it’s getting some good humidity until spring.

You can propogate a pink princess very easily if you need to start from scratch!
