Looking for advice! I just got this absolute STUNNER at a plant convention. Philodendron melanochrysum. I typically stick with my standard chunky bark/perlite/soil/charcoal mix but wondering if I should explore any other mediums to give this guy a perfect home. I’ll probably go with a cedar plank for support for now. Thoughts?

First off, OMG—that is one BEAUTIFUL Melanochrysum! 😍💚 Great purchase! Your chunky aroid mix should work very well for these guys, so I wouldn’t feel the need to change what’s already working for you. Good drainage with some moisture retention is the sweet spot. And YES to the cedar plank! A support is an absolute must for a Melano, especially one this mature. Give those aerial roots something to grab onto and let that beauty CLIMB! 💚 What an incredible find. Enjoy!

Check out Rousseau’s plant care website for great ways to get mature aroids on the wall and on a moss pole. I thought of it immediately when I saw the photo. She looked like she was on the wall at first. She’s stunning!! 💚💚
