Hi! Someone local is selling this caramel marble for $150. It's an established cutting, with one leaf being from the mother plant and the other two being new, according to the seller. This is like top tier wish list plant for me and I'm willing to pay this amount if it's a good deal, but having trouble deciding if this is a reasonable price. I haven't been able to find anything comparable -- I've found lots of small juveniles ranging from around 70-120 or full mother plants for hundreds of dollars (around 400-700). Based on that market, does $150 make sense for an established cutting with mature (but fewer) leaves? Would there be disadvantages to getting this over a juvenile (full mother plants are out of budget)?

    Hmmm I have no experience with the cuttings but for that cost I prefer an entire young plant from a skilled rare plant grower

    Where do you live? I got my Carmel marble 2” plug for $20. The way Philos are hitting big box stores I would wait and it get it for $19.99. That’s what I did with the Thai Con when it was 300 and it was in stores in around a year.

      She is sold out right now but if you watch for a restock she sells hers for 25. I have gotten many TCs from her and have never lost any.

      Oh cool, I did look at Orange Lake recently. My concern is I don't really know how to properly care for a tissue culture. I'd be more worried about killing it :(

      They are actually super easy. I was scared at first too but there are a ton of YouTube videos on how or if you Like TikTok there are a bunch on there. I do a really slow acclimation compared to most people. I add a whole a week and don’t fully open them to my cabinet until around 6 weeks. Orange leaf has som YouTube videos on it. Easy way to get some of the more expensive plants for cheaper.

      Thank you for the encouragement! I do not have a cabinet or a humidifer or anything. Would keeping it in a dome be sufficient or do you really need a cabinet setup?

      I use dome cups for humidity but if you dont have that then you can use two plastic cups taped together. Then i just poke a hole a week. Mine are in the cabinet more because that’s where i have room under my barrina lights. If you are doming them and slowly acclimating you can do that to your house. Just go slow with the acclimation. I use a soldering pen to add a whole a week for 6 weeks then i slowly transition to lids off and build the time up until they are off all the time.

    I’m the bad influence here to tell you that if it feels right, DO IT! If it’s your dream plant and it makes you happy, $150 is definitely better than $400. Yes it has less leaves but it sounds like it will get plenty of love from you, it will grow more! Best of luck friend!!!

    I’m on the “wait” train. This plant will probably be available for about $20 or so in a year when the initial hype dies down. I’m strategically waiting for Wilbur graves Hoya to go down like this😂

      The wilbur is so cool. I cannot get on the $300 plant train and they always eventually hit the box stores 😂 I can be have patience because it can get expensive really fast. 90% of my plants started as 2” plugs, cuttings, TC or corms or I’ll never be able to retire 😂

      Hahaha same here I keep buying plant clippings and growing them myself! It’s so fun. Also means I can buy a higher number 😂

      This halfmoon Albo is my most recent cutting. I got it in August for $25. It was so fun to watch for the new leaf. I think I am done with Monsteras for a while. I just got a Creme Brulee TC and i have the Albo, 2 thai cons, a mint, burle marx, peru and 2 delciosa and 2 Adonsii. They are gonna grow up and takeover my whole house if I don’t stop 😂 I just love them so much. I told my husband I am gonna have to move south so they can live outside 😂

    I purchased a Variegated caramel marble with pink and everything for like $99??? 🤭 It took a bit to get going but it finally pushed a gorgeous creamy leaf. Funny thing is another vendor sent me a ring of fire for free and at this early stage is given me so much more in variegation and leaf shape and growth 🤣
