In need of advice. After the failure with the gigantic Prince of orange who only wanted to die with me, I’ve got another philodendron. This time a PPP from Home Depot. With the Prince of orange I followed all the advice I could find in the internet and I’m still traumatized 🤣 Please, help. I have only a window facing west. My plants get 40-60 minutes of sun at 4-5 pm or earlier during winter. I can also put it near a grow light, if needed. If I put it next to the window glass, it will also be next to the heater. If I put it further away, less light, of course. How frequently do you water it? Do you wait until totally dry the first 2 inches? Thank you!!

I find clear pots have helped me so much when it came to over/under watering my plants. I use the app of course but more as a reminder to just check the soil. I only bottom water mine when at least half of it is dry (I am the worst when it comes to overwatering philodendrons even with a chunky soil mix so I tend to lean to the drier side before watering) mine was in my sheer curtained sunroom all summer but I moved it under a 36w grow light bulb for winter 😌

Mine is next to a heater and west window. Because I’m in the PNW I cannot count on the sun so I also have lights on it. But the app sets to these selections. It has not failed me yet. I water when it reminds me and she is doing well.

When u buy any plant from a big box store u need to change the soil after about a week or 2 of being in ur house. They don’t use chunky soil & they overwater, so the plants usually always have some sort of root rot. Philos don’t like to dry completely. So like 70%-80% dry before watering. BUT IT HAS TO HAVE CHUNKY AROID SOIL. This needs super bright light so the grow light might be best, hopefully ur light is decent w/ foot candle output. U don’t want any plants close to a heater. Could damage the plant w/ all the heat. Also, make sure this planter isn’t actively using the self watering aspect cuz that will def rot any philodendron
