LadyTenorJDI have mine in the same soil and pot from the orange aprons. It looks like a mix of soil and peat moss. She seems to like it well enough in there.

Do you add other things to it for it to get nutrients? Or if not how more frequently do u have to water it in that?

Hi Tori, I use Growth Technology Foliage Focus (plus a few other non essential additives) in my nutrient solution. I use a concentration of 5ml/litre (mature plants you can go up to 7ml/litre). It’s really handy having different size plastic syringes to measure the nutrient solution accurately, depending on how big a batch you make up in one go. I usually make a 5L batch and normally use 25ml of Foliage Focus so I use a 20ml syringe to measure this out. Recently I bough glass measuring cups that have ml and oz printed on them and that’s pretty helpful too. Just make sure you do a bit of research on pH. Plants grown I semi-hydro like LECA or pon need to have their nutrient water adjusted to a ph of 5.5 to 6.5. That’s the ph that the roots need to take up the nutrients from the hydroponic fertiliser you add. Tap water is often somewhere in the range of neutral to alkaline but you won’t really know until you measure. You can use a ph test kit (like in science class at school, with different colours referring to the different degrees of acidity and alkalinity). I personally find this too annoying so I bought an inexpensive digital ph meter on eBay. You make your nutrient water, measure ph with that. Then add ph up (base) or ph down (acid) and remeasure until you’re in the right range. You get pretty quick at doing it though initially it’s a hassle. In terms of frequency, i will let the plant drink it all and then will refill but I don’t let it sit without the nutrient solution to dry out. At the moment i refill every 7-14 days depending on how thirsty the plant is and also my laziness :) Best practice is to remove the old nutrient water if its still there and tip it out and replace with new but sometimes I’m lazy and just top up instead.
