Hello I’m (fairly) new to taking care of philodendrons and I’m looking to get one in the near future. I have is a silver sword which has been a sweetheart to me but very dramatic. And I hear a lot that philos are pretty hard and dramatic so I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions or favorite philos to share that will get me looking forward to getting more in the future (Edit: I technically have 3 philos but two are propagations so I don’t count them yet)

Theyre a little pricier and hard to find (unless thats changed and i just live in the middle of nowhere lol) but philodendron white knights are my favorite, i stuck mine on a moss pole day 1 and it gives me a new leaf every 2-3 weeks without fuss and can take a bad underwatering spell, mine has very little variegation but the leaves are variegated like thai cons are, which is lovely and i might prefer it more than chunks/stripes of white, but you can find some with lots of variegation for around $30-50

I usually consider philodendrons to be beginner friendly, but in reality what’s “easy” is more based a person’s care style. A succulent might be an easy plant for someone who forgets to water, but more difficult for someone who waters a lot. Meanwhile the heavy waterer could have success with the ferns that the forgetter always kills. So that being said, what sort of challenges have you had with your silver sword?

I’ve never really had any challenges with my silver except that this during winter they have been pushing out smaller leaves to fast but the leaves have been getting bigger again slowly (and the research I’ve done says it’s lack of light but this guy has two glow lights right at em) but watering is fairly easy and I don’t have troubles with that

Oh okay, that sounds normal. I wouldn’t be too afraid to get more philodendrons then! I have a lot of favorites lol but I can recommend painted lady, birkin, Florida green, and prince of orange

My heart leaf philodendron! I’ve had this fella for over 10 years now. The very first thing I actually kept alive 😂 I currently have 6 propagations off that plant around my house. Not counting a few I’ve given away. It holds a special place in my heart. It was a gift from my husbands grandpas funeral and the plant that had taught me the most!

And this lovely beast here is my split leaf philodendron! My mama picked it up for me less than a week ago. I actually just unbound the roots this morning and re-potted it. Here’s to hoping it thrives!!

That was a score from Lowes! And only $23!! It was horribly root bound, but I have high hopes it comes out of that now that it’s been freed up and repotted.
