I have a Philodendron brandtianum, right? not a satin pothos?!??? Help!
I have a Philodendron brandtianum, right? not a satin pothos?!??? Help!
Also, should I give her something to climb????
0 likesdefinitely not a satin pothos — and yes, it would like something to climb 😊💚
0 likesWhat would you suggest? I have no experience with moss poles or trellises yet…..
0 likesa true sphagnum moss pole is what will encourage roots to anchor (into the moss) but you have to keep them moist and fungus gnats like to breed in them. you could also just use a stake or a coco coir pole (or a cute trellis) and tie it up for support, but it won’t root or climb that without assistance
2 likesI think it’s a Philo Mamei which is actually a crawler, not a climber. But I could be wrong because it does look like yours wants to climb!
3 likesahhh! hard to tell when the leaves are small right? but i thought that swoopy vine looked like it might be a climber — at least we know it’s a philo 🤪
0 likesDoesn’t look like a brandi to me, though I’m definitely interested in others’ thoughts. Brandis tend to have a thinner stem and a lot more of an orangey tone to the stem and newer leaves. They also tend to climb straight up rather than out and up like this. It actually looks to me like this might be a crawler that’s just crawled out of its pot. If it were my plant I’d probably air layer the most recent couple nodes and plant with some space to crawl (if it wants to) and see what it does. If it still tries to climb then you can always use that extra crawling space to add a moss pole for climbing instead. Gorgeous plant either way, and nice that it’s so insistent on sizing up!

Could be Brandi, but my first thought was a Sodiroi with low variegation. The leaf shape is what makes me think it
2 likesDefinitely not a Brandi. My guess is either a sodoroi or mamei
1 likeIs it okay that I’m trying to get it to climb now?

I hate to confuse you further, but I’m going to go with philodendron pastazanum silver, based on the way the petiole flares where it connects to the leaf. It looks like they’re crawlers, but you could probably train it upwards using a moss pole if you don’t want it to take up a lot of horizontal space

Strong recommend against trying to get a crawler to climb. You can technically force it but it’s not gonna get anywhere near as happy/nice as if you just let it crawl, and vice versa with climbers crawling
