Okay. I’ll admit my total ignorance. 😬🤪 I saw a plant that looked GORGEOUS!! I’m a sucker for unusual variegated plants. I saw that a seller I’ve had good experiences with was selling a…Pink Congo Philodendron. No. I hadn’t heard anything about that plant before. Yes. When I saw the photos I wondered how a plant with that many light colored leaves could survive. But I thought maybe the pink had more chlorophyll than white or cream. It arrived today. She IS gorgeous! But as I was doing some more (admittedly belated) research on the ‘Pink Congo’ I learned that this particular plant is artificially treated with something (some folks say it’s ethylene) which creates the pink color. But the plant will always revert to just green once those treated pink leaves are done. Lesson learned. To the tune of $70.00. 😳🫤 Moral of the story is to do your research BEFORE you buy the plant. I’ll just enjoy her while she’s lasts, then I’ll enjoy my green philodendron. 😬🙄

    Oh man what an expensive lesson to learn, but at least you have a good attitude about it. I didn’t even know there are plant scammers out there like that, definitely false advertising.

      I know! Right? It just never occurred to me that people would do something like that. But shame on ME for NOT doing a better job of learning about it. I mean, honestly, it DID occur to me “how can the plant survive with so many light leaves?” But I justified it by thinking that perhaps the pink color had more chlorophyll that white or cream leaves. She IS beautiful though. 😬

    That is too bad. If in the future you ever want a good pink that stays that way, pink princess is probably the best in philodendrons, and pink panther callisia is the strongest pink I've ever seen. Also just adding some common types of plant scams to raise awareness: check for ai generated images, blue roses are impossible and a dead giveaway, osiria roses are real but are often seen in scam shops, teal and blue are highly suspect in any plant, hostas can't do red or purple leaves, never buy seeds when the plant is usually sold as a bulb, rhizome, or older size. Shop around before buying a "unicorn" variety, generally avoid etsy and amazon listings as scams are more common there. If you aren't sure, do a reverse image search or ask a knowledgable friend

      I have a Pink Princess. She’s doing great. She’s been throwing out gorgeous leaves lately like crazy! Thanks for all the info. I usually am pretty good at spotting unicorns. But this Pink Congo definitely got me. 😬. Lesson learned.
