My mother was gifted what we think is a Philodendron Xanadu and she is not the best at caring for plants. It wasn’t getting enough light or water, so I took over for her. Currently, the plant is struggling. Planta’s analysis says it was underwatered and then overwatered, and I have been trying my best to bring it back from that brink. Is this even a Xanadu though? I’m starting to wonder if it’s a Ring of Fire. Any advice would be appreciated. What looked like a new growth broke off almost completely and I’m unsure if it can be propagated or how to help the plant heal from something like that. I hope I haven’t hastened its demise trying to save it.

    It might be a Philodendron 'Narrow Tiger Tooth'. It looks like it might be getting uneven or unconsistent waterings. It is probably not your fault and could just use a soil change and being bottom watered.

      Thank you so much for your answer! Planta is advising I wait to water it, but the soil is already fairly dry. A tiny bit moist to the touch, but not moist enough that it really clings to my finger when I stick it in there, and that dryness is consistent through the soil. Should I bottom water it now, or wait?

      I would wait a few days until the top inch of the soil is dry. Also when you water do some too watering too so your plant can a just to the new watering care. Also if you want to a more permeant fix is to repot so you can really check the roots and give it a bit more chunky soil. My has a chunky perlite, orchid soil, and indoor potting mix soil which is helping it grow great and is very easy to tell when to water. I’m glad I could help :)

      It’s grown two new leaves! The new watering schedule and fertilizer has really helped.

    It doesn’t have the variegation that RoF does, so it looks more like a jungle boogie to me. Plants are resilient! I’d say to get it in its optimal growing conditions and let the soil dry out between waterings. I’m confident it will bounce back

      Thank you! Do you think the accidentally cut new growth will heal, or should I just give that one up for lost and let the plant seal the wound on its own instead of trying to doctor it back together?

      I would leave it alone and just let the plant continue growing on its own. But that’s just me, I have a pretty hands off approach when it comes to plants

    I agree it needs chunkier soil and let it dry out completely between watering. You should get it out of the potty and check the roots to make sure they’re healthy. I was a CHRONIC over waterer for YEARS before I really tried to learn about plants. The top I got that helped was “it’s a lot easier to save an underwatered plant than an overwatered plant.”
