I have several questions about my oldest philodendron. I’ve had her for almost 3 years and repotted her over the summer due to root rot in the sister plant that I purchased at the same time. This one did not have root rot, but I went ahead and repotted. I’m posting photos below so yall can help me out with what’s going on. Should I empty soil and clean out or just leave her as is? Some roots (I think) that I can see are brown, I’m not sure what these things shooting out are, and one leaf fell off as I was moving soil around. I can’t propagate this one can I?

    Those are totally normal - they are aerial roots. You can trim them off and it won’t hurt the plant. It’s hard to tell but it doesn’t look like there is a node on that stem. No node, no roots 🌱 My Hope philo for root reference

    Instead of repotting when you get root rot, have you tried hydrogen peroxide? You add 2-3 cap fulls to a pitcher of water and water your plants w that. Also if you’re getting regular root rot, you’re watering too much. Let them completely dry between waterings and spray every few days lightly for humidity

      I’ve only had one plant to get root rot and at the time, all I knew to do was repot. But it was really bad and the philo didn’t make it. This one has never had it, but I’m afraid it is getting it or has it now idk. I should try the hydrogen peroxide you mentioned next time I water? I now have water meters that I use to check but I think the soil at the very bottom might still be damp is why I was considering dumping it all out 😳 I can’t dig down to the bottom of the pot to check bc she’s so rooty.

      So there’s a lot of factors. The pot used, the amount of watering, the amount and type of light it’s receiving, drainage, etc. I’ve found the best way to water is more intuitively. You’ve got a plastic pot so the pot will not hold moisture as well. Maybe keep your same watering schedule but do a little less water. I would do hydrogen peroxide next time and anytime you’re worried. It kills bugs, mold, and aerates the soil. What kind of drainage do you have? Any holes in the bottom or gravel underneath or just straight soil?
