Need some help with this guy. I am new to caring for plants, so I have no idea what’s wrong! The discolored leaves are soft, not dry. Does anybody know what’s wrong/ how to fix this? Thank you!

Do you keep it in full sun? It could be sunburn.

It’s in the window behind it (inside) where it only gets direct sun maybe an hour or 2 a day. The pot it was in didn’t have drainage holes so I put it in a pot with holes. Could this have been from overwatering?

I also just put a humidifier next to it because I read they like humidity. The winter air here is soooo dry. Hoping this helps. Thank you for your comment!

Yeah this looks like overwatering which lead to root rot. I would actually suggest cutting away the dead and discolored leaves so the plant can focus its energy on the younger healthier leaves. Philodendrons really hate soggy soil and get root rot relatively easily, so even if it’s in a pot with holes, if it’s just in regular potting soil that medium probably retains too much moisture for this plants liking. I keep mine in a mixture of orchid bark, perlite, charcoal, and potting soil. A lot of companies sell ‘tropical soil’ mixtures you can buy which function the same way. If you do repot it, check out the root system and cut away any dead / mushy roots! The root rot bacteria can spread and infect more of the plant / other roots. You can typically kill the root rot bacteria by directly applying hydrogen peroxide to the rotting part of the root. There are a lot of good videos on YouTube for treating root rot and potting mixtures for philodendrons!

Chop off all the bad leaves, repot in good soil, keep in bright indirect light water when top inch of soil is dry
