Hi all! I’d love some advice. My Red Congo philodendron was looking a little sad and droopy so I decided to check the roots for any damage.. the roots are looking very stringy and dark brown.. is this early signs of root rot? The stem is not mushy at all so I’m wondering if I can cut off all dead roots and they will eventually grow back? I really don’t want to lose her so any help at all is greatly appreciated!

It’s hard to tell from a picture but if the roots are mushy or stringy or come off easily them yes they are rotted. You can cut off the roots and repot with the healthy roots remaining or reroot if no healthy roots remain. Philodendron are very resilient

If you do end up losing enough root that there’s barely anything left, you can also gently rinse off the remaining healthy roots and plop it in a glass of water like a water propagation, let its roots grow back a little faster/easier. Whether you repot back in (chunky, quick-draining) soil or water, I’d also recommend making sure you let the roots “rest” or scab over for at least a few hours first (up to a day), so that you’re not “contaminating open wounds.” Good luck!!! Philo’s are tough as nails, I’m sure this guy will bounce back soon enough under your watchful eye!

I don’t think they look rotted, hard to tell via pic. Gently pull, if they break easily they’re rotted or dried up if underwatered.
