For those of you with philodendrons & similar trailing plants, how do you water them once they’ve grown to a point where you’ve perhaps anchored their long stems/aerial roots to your wall or other objects? I’m concerned about not being able to water them properly if I can’t do it in the kitchen sink, and don’t want to risk getting water everywhere if the drip tray overflows. Do you just water in smaller amounts and more frequently?

I’m having this issue right now, I have a bigger saucer under the pot and I water in small amounts until saturated and then soak up the excess water in the saucer with a towel. The biggest thing I’m worried about is repotting, which I need to do but I’m avoiding.

I have most of my plants hanging with a plant hanger, I use a large bowl underneath to catch the water, takes time but worth the hassle + not having to take it off the hanger every time

I’ve not needed to do it yet, but I’ve seen people use a turkey baster to suck up the water from the drip tray if it’s looking like it’s going to over flow. Seems like a simple but effective solution!

You can set the plants in the flatter plastic craft totes or Rubbermaid storage totes that are wide and deep enough to hold water and fit the base of the pots. You let the plants soak up water for an hour and drain the excess. I’ve used under bed storage totes because they have taller sides than plant saucers. They also hold several plants allowing me to water several large plants without carrying them to a tub or shower stall.

Maybe something like this tray for hanging pots? They hold more water than the typical plastic tray, so it would be harder to overflow
