So I have had this plant for a couple of years and it has never had a problem until recently. I tend to follow the planta watering schedule (got program this spring) but have found that the plant seems incredibly dry only 3 days after watering (from the top). Water meter shows it as dry+ and it isn't due for water for 12 days. The yellowing only started today. Some leaves are curling. Any help would be appreciated.

It may be root bound and in need on a repot into a larger pot

12 days is too long to wait for a philodendron that’s already dry. Have you inputted all the settings for this one? Not that Planta’s schedule is 100% accurate, but it helps to put in the size, soil type, window distance, etc. Also check if it’s ready for a repot, like Steph said

Thanks. Good to know and I will go back to once a week and repot. I feel like I have nothing to lose as the plant looks so sad.

You could always try rehydrating the soil first incase it’s gone hydrophobic. Let it sit in a pot of water (I usually fill mine so the water is 2/3 up the side of the pot). Allow it to sit there until you can feel moisture in the soil 1” from the top of the rim, remove and let it sit in the sink to allow all the excess water to drain out. If your plant still goes dry after a few days then definitely repot. A couple years in a pot is a long time, it probably could use a soil refresher anyways.

I’d repot and give it some fresh soil. Use Planta as a guide, but rely more on a moisture meter, your finger or a chopstick to check the soil. Good luck! 🍀
