i’ve been curious about something recently—when i look at listings for pink princesses, i see some that are just listed as ppps and some that are listed as “marble galaxy” princesses, with the variegation being more splashy. is the marble galaxy a fully fledged variant of the pink princess, or is it just a mutation that happens sometimes? OR is it just that the variegation happens to be splashy, and it’s fully possibly for a “marble galaxy” to put out standard ppp variegation? i don’t know much about the specifics of variegation but this has been on my mind a lot recently lol

I’m certainly not an expert, but I think it’s just a catchy name for more splashy variegated strains. I don’t think they’re different enough yet to be separate. I would think it might depend on how stable it is. But some of the categories do seem to take on a life of their own. Black cherry is one I see a lot, but my instincts say it’s mostly just plants that have been grown in really high light, causing the green parts to get so dark they almost look black. Red Anderson I believe started as a PPP variant but now I seem to see it listed on it’s own without mentioning pink princess. Maybe that one is different to become it’s own 🤷 I think the hard part is that some growers are actually trying to make new strains, hybrids, and whatnot, but a lot of sellers are just trying to make a buck off of an interesting name. I think about these things too lol
