hi all! i need some advice right now. so all of the rooms in my apartment have west-facing windows. i like to put my plants that like bright indirect light the best closer to the window (so my philos and my carnivorous plants). i’ve also been considering getting a hanging window plant shelf setup so i have more places to put my plants (i seem to have a taste for plants that prefer more light..) the thing is that winter is coming soon (i live in zone 6), and when my apartment building turns the heat on it gets VERY warm at night and us residents can’t really dial the heat up or down because it’s a little janky 💀 and i prefer having some cool air when i sleep so even in the coldest months i usually sleep with my window cracked open to let some air in. obviously that wouldn’t be a great situation for my plants next to the window, given that they all need warmer temperatures. will my plants still be getting enough light if i move them farther from the window, and will that be far enough so that they don’t get shocked by a little cool air? i’ve included pictures of my room—if i moved them it would be to the right of my desk, under the right set of shelves. i could also put them on the other side of my room, on the nightstand or shelf next to my bed. the incoming cold months are stressing me out so much lol..

Use a light meter or app to determine the light intensity at each plant’s location. Determine the amount needed. Make adjustments. Use grow lights. Cold temperatures will kill off tropical plants. Some go dormant if they are bulbs or rhizomes. Good luck.

If it were me, I would invest in a plant shelf with lights. There are many ideas on Pinterest. Create a permanent space for them in your apt, Add some supplemental lights, grab a cheap dual hygrometer/thermometer from Amazon and humidifier for your carnivorous planty. Keep tabs on the environment around them. If it were me-That is what I would do. Remove the influence of the variable, outside environment by creating their own indoor space to help them Thrive. Happy planting! 🍀
