The newest leaf on my philo birkin never actually came out and rotted in place, along with the petiole which turned brown and broke off easily. Any idea why? And what should I do about it?

I would just trim away as much of the dead leaf etc as you can. Then wait for it to produce a new baby. It will. Eventually.

could have been a little crown rot if water got into the top stem and never made its way out. get off as much of the old stem and leaf as you can, and when you water make sure it’s just the soil and don’t get any on the top of the plant. it will take a while for a new leaf to grow since the entire thing broke off.
