Hello philodendron friends. I recently picked up a philodendron from someone unloading plants on Facebook marketplace because of a move. He didn't know what it was, but was adamant about how the spots were supposed to be there. The newest leaf does not have any spots observed. I repotted it into my own substrate and didn't notice any pests in the old soil. Can anyone help me identify this plant? Is it an emerald green?

The yellow spots could be from overgrown roots sitting in water. It happened to two of my plants. The water catchment dish was too large for the pot and held too much water. The overgrown root tips found their way to the dish and sat in the excess water for days. I repotted and the new growth had no yellow spots. Yellow spots never went away on the old leaves. New growth on left in my picture.

That does look similar! The previous owner said when he got the plant it was some "star" name but I couldn't find anything similar when I searched for it.

You would think the new leaves would develop the sane stars.😄

I have a philodendron that got the same spots and mine were caused by too much sunlight and humidity in my greenhouse. I moved it to a shaded porch and it fixed the issue. New growth is fine but spots remain on other leaves
