Hey there! Been trying to propagate this guy— i snipped & put him in water about 4 days ago and haven’t seen any progress. He’s been sitting on my window sill btw:) am I doing anything wrong? or simply impatient lol

Simply impatient :) it can take 4-6 weeks sometimes. As long as the leaves don’t look like they’re dying then just wait it out.

Gotcha!! I read somewhere that it takes a week— so I guess I had unrealistic expectations from that. Thanks sm :)

I read that too, and totally thought I was doing something wrong with my first propagation! Turns out it just needs a month or two :)

I found that if you put a cutting of a Pothos in there, the roots will start to form quicker. I have a ZZ leaf that had been sitting with a Pilea Pepermoidies cutting and the pilea was going crazy with roots but the zz wasn’t doing anything. I put a golden Pothos cutting and a marble queen cutting in with the ZZ leaf and it finally started to for the rhizome and the roots after only being with it for 4-5 days!

You’re welcome! I hope it works for you!
1 likeI believe those are Calathea leaves. If so, water propagation isn’t an option. The only way to propagate is through division - separate plant and ensure roots are connected. I tried the same thing and found this info when trying to troubleshoot.
