Hey y’all. I’ve had this Pink Princess for a little over a month now. The place I got it from had it in a place with little to no natural lighting so it already didn’t look great. I was so excited when it finally popped a new leaf only for it to come out looking like this 😅 Does any one know what is the cause of this, and what I can do to promote larger foliage and more variegation? It gets indirect sunlight most of the day.

I believe that is normal for the baby leaves to emerge a different color like that, then they slowly turn into there adult color as they harden off and grow.

Like others said this color is normal and then will darken as the leaf gets harder but I also wanted to add that this Pink Princess looks like it has reverted so I hope the seller sold it to you at a cheaper price. But on that note don’t give up hope reverted plants still have a shot at showing beautiful variegation when the plant is more mature and acclimated properly.

when they revert they turn red, like a congo rojo, as long as the stems are still pink and the new leaves are pink it’s still a pink princess! i got mine that looked reverted to put out a half variegated leaf (but then the leaf snapped. it was still pink though!!)

A variegated pink princess will have bright pink throughout it’s burgundy stems and petioles. Here is an example of what the stems should look like if the plant is variegated and getting a proper amount of light. This is NMP because I am not home rn to take a picture of mine.

you can only get more variegating through bright light, and the leaves come out relatively small and grow as the mature and darken. they turn green as they grow and any pink spots will become brighter. variegation is set as soon as the leaf starts forming, so even after moving it to a bright spot it might not have any pink leaves until one or two more leaves have come out. here is both of mine, the left used to be in a dark basement and the right has been in an east facing window (morning sun i’ve found is the best for inducing variegating without burning the plant)
