I’m attempting to get my Philodendron Rio to put out variegated leaves again. I’ve clipped off the segments of vines below a node that has striped leaves. The theory is the remaining leaf nodes previously put out striped leaves. So, they will likely do it again. I clipped off half of the vines and propagated each node into a rectangular bud vase containing SuperThrive. It holds about a quart of water. I repotted the mother plant in a 4 inch pot with well draining soil mix. I’m sure the decreased intensity and amount of light in my kitchen window during colder months is the primary cause of the new leaves lacking stripes. The window is facing north east. The new growth is also etiolated with 5 inch gaps between the nodes, a further indication it was seeking light. I’ve moved it outside since the weather is quickly warming.
