Hi, first time Pothos owner. Is it worth it to make nutrient water for your plants instead of buying fertilizer? I’ve been trying to research my options. If you do use some form or variation of compost tea, what works best on your neon Pothos? I’m really trying to make this one live her best life.

I use Plant Juice by Elm Dirt; it’s an all natural, organic fertilizer. My plants love it, and because of that I love Plant Juice! It’s not the cheapest fertilizer, but it’s well worth the price for what it does for your plants. Here’s a picture of my Neon that’s been raised on Plant Juice, and the picture of Plant Juice itself. Best of luck!

PS. I purchased my Neon April 29, 2024 about two months after I purchased her; I think she’s done quite well for just a bit over a year! I believe I owe that to Plant Juice!

Worm castings are a part of my soil mix. And then I use a purchased fertilizer. I use every 2-3 weeks. I do occasionally add in freshwater fish tank water change water as well.

Sorry, Wolfen, but I lost your post with the info on how to contact you! Would you mind telling me which kind of pot you purchased for your hydroponic plants? Also, did you send me info on the products you finally purchased for your DIY hydroponic substrate? If so, can you remind me where to find that or resend that info? I’ve purchased a small bag of Lechuza, but I think I’ll plan to make my own next time. Have you checked out the figures, and is it really cheaper to make a DIY hydroponic substrate like Lechuza? As usual, TIA… really!

Your plant looks like a Neon Philodendron to me. I use Dyna Gro/Superthrive Foilage Pro and feed at 25-30% strength with every watering. I’ve never tried a compost tea. Seems like more work compared to buying a complete fertilizer and mixing with water. Unless your going to test the nutrient levels of the compost tea, you won’t know what your getting out of it. Could be high in some nutrients and low in others.

Your plant is a philodendron. It’s typically labeled Neon or Lemon Lime. You can tell by the smooth vine compared to the ribbing/grooves found on pothos vines, among other things. I use Miracle Gro and SuperThrive plant vitamins in warm months. It’s a known dosage that I can’t measure when mixing a tea. My concern is under fertilizing when mixing my own. My photo shows mine about 2 years apart. The tiny leaves grew indoors in cold months with a lot less light. I usually trim these in spring to get the bigger leaves or the plant would be bigger. 🪴🍀

After looking at all of the comments on this post, I was a bit confused,😕 and because the picture on the left shows it is both a Pothos, and a philodendron. The picture on the right is a close-up of the vines you were talking about. Do you have any idea why it’s labeled both of Pothos and philodendron? TIA!

It's not a pothos like every one has said. But i use "liquid dirt" in all my plants every time they get watered.

We The Wild grow Concentrate is my go-to. My plants have been thriving on it! Also, that’s a lemon lime philodendron, not a pothos.
