Hi all, So, for the last few months I thought I was doing a pretty good job taking care of my pothos; watering once a week, making sure it got plenty of sun, etc. But recently it’s become extra sad looking and some of the leaves have yellowed (as you can see by the ones I have clipped on the left) A couple weeks ago, I repotted some of the clippings in this ceramic pot and put a few others in that glass filled with water, sort of like a control and variable. That window is about a foot and a half to the left. At first glance, which looks healthier? Full disclosure: I’m a total novice and I have already killed two plants (a snake plant and a succulent) and I’m trying to avoid a third, especially since this was a graduation present from my parents. Side note: don’t know if this matters but my portable A/C is below the plants and blows air directly up. Could this be problematic?

Having AC or heat directly on your plant is never good. So that could be part of the problem. It could be shock from the cuttings moving from water to dirt, so it might be droopy because it’s still trying to figure it out. I’m not 100% sure though

Ty Ariana! I’ll move them away from the AC

I agree with this A/C directly on any plant is a no go in my book, same with heater. I also agree it can be going through shock, after repotting give her a good drink and some plant food or fertilizer if you have some and she should bounce back. Pothos are pretty forgiving 😅

Also another question how big were the roots and how big is this pot ? The soil could be holding too much moisture would be my last guess

Thanks, Bri! I will check the moisture in a bit. I watered her yesterday. The pot is just a bit smaller than the one it came in. Shouldn’t be too different of a living space. The roots are medium sized but not as big as the ones in the glasses. Also, the soil is custom with perlite from my friend. It’s mixed with what came with the plant itself.

You can always try wrapping the barest vibe around in the pot for it to root, it will at the nodes. I have a pothos clipping from my aunt that literally took like 2 months to produce new growth so they can be a bit slow too from my experiences.

Are you checking the soil before you water? Or just “watering every Friday” kinda deal? Pothos like to dry out fully before watering so it could be an over watering situation. Also they need good drainage, does that liner pot you have the main plant in have drainage holes?

Thanks for your feedback, plant pals. I ended up just putting all of her parts in the water glass so I could prevent hurting her anymore.

Btw, is there anything I can do for these poor fallen leaves?

Actually, I would suggest putting them in the water vase too if they’re healthy enough. The ones that are more curled up and yellow I would just throw away. I have cuttings propagating at work in water and surprisingly just the plain leaves have grown a bunch of roots. If you do, and they start to turn brown on the end, then just throw them away.
