Hey guys, I’m a new plant mom and I (not having educated myself) got a golden pothos from a big box store that had a fungal issue. I treated it and took these cuttings just in case the mom didn’t make it. I know there’s no leaves but I heard it’s still possible to propagate. They are losing their color and the stems seem swollen. I’ve seen black/black lines on pothos and pothos cuttings and it’s been normal but is this normal or is this rot? They are being propagated in water together, only the bottom tips being submerged. Humidity between 70-80 percent. Temp 75-85. (Taken out of the water to take the pic and doing a water change) Advice would be appreciated thanks :)

    The cutting should have at least 1 leaf (for photosynthesis) and one node (the little brown bump) to propagate. I’ve attached a photo of one of the stems of my pothos. The roots will grow out of the nodes and the leaf will photosynthesize the sun to get the energy it needs to continue to grow. In this photo, I could technically take 2 cuttings. The brown part on each stem is from where each new leaf shoots out from. My recommendation, take a new cutting(s) and stick those nodes in a water cup (make sure to fully submerge) and leave by a window so the leaves can get all that light! I have another pothos that I just brought back to life, so I believe in you!

    Thanks guys :) I am going to let mom chill for a bit before I take new cuttings, since she just went through the fungal issue treatment and got her haircut. I had only taken these because I didn’t know if she was going to make it. She looks healthy right now though. But thank you. I’ll let these go and now I know for next time that they do in fact need at least one leaf in order to propagate. I had read somewhere that it was possible they could do it without it but since mom looks healthy I’ll just wait until she’s had a good break from getting messed with and try again.

    Plop ‘er in some distilled water and place under a grow light. They are tough plants and want to survive!
