Fungus gnats! Nasty little buggers that usually arise like zombies in the summer months lol. Usually come from too moist of soil and poor quality soil (like miracle grow stuff that is kept outdoors 24/7 before you buy it). I’d get a chunky soil mix (cactus/succulent with perlite and orchid bark additives to mix in yourself). Take the plant out of the pot, wash off the roots with a diluted hydrogen peroxide and water solution. Throw out all old soil, wash your pot throughly (make sure it has drainage holes), repot the plant with the new soil mix, then get some mosquito bits and soak those in water (per package instructions) and water them through for a good month or so. To kill all the adults that’ll inevitably be encircling your head during these steps lol, get some yellow sticky traps and place them in the soil in the pot after you are all done.

2 LikesOf course! Hopefully that helps get rid of them, from my experience and seeing other people’s experience it’s all about being consistent and sticking it through, almost a battle of the wills lol, let’s have you 1 and fungus gnats 0!
1 LikeJust wanted to add that when I buy a new bag of soil, I soak it with roughly 1 part hydrogen peroxide, 4 parts water. A lot of soil has some fungus gnat eggs, and it only takes a couple for them to multiply quickly! When I get a new plant, I also soak the roots with the same hydrogen peroxide mix. And throw away the soil that the plant comes in. Same idea - lots of plants come with a few gnats already and then they spread.
3 LikesAdding that the plug in gnat light traps (zevo/ veyofly/ etc) work AMAZING. I just got them bc the gnats were driving me bonkers and LITERALLY 2mins after plugging them in I’d already caught 3 flies. (Hubs was wondering how they work) it’s been 3 days and they’re working SUPER well. Tip for the in pot sticky traps - bend them before you stick them in the soil and don’t take all the paper off while you’re placing it so you have something to hold while placing and you don’t have to touch sticky grossness. Lastly - if you’re going to use dunks/bits/BTI drops you need to keep it up for several weeks. I fill a 15L jug and put the dunks in to soak overnight so I always have anti-gnat water available for watering.
