Ok my plant friends I need some advice. My beautiful pothos keeps getting yellow leaves with ugly black spots. This plant site recommended checking for thrips which it has none. Then stated maybe a nutrient deficiency. I watered with fertilizer, sprinkled old coffee grounds in soil, I washed each leaf with insecticidal soap and used neem oil!! šŸ¤”šŸ˜Help plant friends!! Should I just get rid of the soil? I normally use miracle grow potting soil for all my pothos. However, this soil is something I purchased from a local nursery. Iā€™m at a loss now on what to do next HELP!!

    Is your pothos in a terracotta pot? That material is best for succulents and cacti, it will pull the excess moisture from the soil which they love, but the terracotta sucking all the moisture from your pothos/ soil. I recommend repotting into a plastic pot and be sure itā€™s not much bigger than the root ball. It looks like the current pot might be a bit too big. Pothos are so resilient, itā€™ll bounce back! Always check the soil moisture before watering, good luck! šŸ˜€šŸŖ“

      Itā€™s in a terracotta pot, I have had to chop it back, the pot was once full and so beautiful before I repotted it

      This pic had it in a plastic pot I got from Amazon and when I switched it to the clay terracotta pot which is better this is the state itā€™s in now.

    I am gonna just go ahead and repot it back in my miracle grow soil.. fingers crossed

    Plants need an adjustment period after purchase and repotting because the roots are disturbed and damaged. It could take a couple of weeks or more to settle. Each time repot it could restart the clock. I recommend leaving it alone a couple of weeks in good lighting. Donā€™t overwater. šŸŖ“šŸ€

    A lot of plant owners make their own with a mix of perlite, horticultural charcoal,orchid mulch and soil. 1:1:1:2 parts.Store left over in a bin and youā€™ll have it for the future.

    Check with your local family owned nurseries. I go into mine thatā€™s been in business about 40 years and ask for the ā€œgoodā€ potting soil mix. šŸ˜„. They are very reliable. I havenā€™t bought any in a few years. Donā€™t recall the brand. I just use what they recommend at the time. I mix my own potting soil for my hoyas from a combination of coconut husk, orchid bark, worm castings, and perlite. I avoid peat moss for my houseplants. But use it on outside pots because the Texas heat dries them out quickly. Peat moss will hold water a little longer.
