Could anyone help me with this plant? Ive had it for months and it hasn’t put out new leafs and the ones it has keeps browning and dying off. I thought it may be because I didn’t water it enough so I’ve increased the watering and it’s still declining…. The water in the bottom is because I just watered it. Any advice I’d really appreciate thank you all!💚
Hey Lyn, Is it new growth that’s dying off or old growth? Old growth dying off is normal as new growth comes in. But if it’s new growth that’s dying, there could be an issue. How often did you water it before you upped the watering?
1 like It’s old growth, it hasn’t had any new growth in about 4 months seems like. I probably watered every 2 weeks before I decided to up it because the terracotta just seemed to dry it out more than I thought it would! Thank you so much for your help I really appreciate it! I really love this plant so I’m hoping to get her healthy again!
1 likeBe careful to not water it too much now that you’re upping the water. It might be overwatered if the leaves are turning.

0 likesPothos can go a little longer without watering and they will survive. Because terracotta is a natural material, it will soak up the water. But still check with a chop stick or knitting needle if the top 25% is dry or not. Honestly, I would just check the roots and see what’s going on down there. If all else fails, find a good leaf with a node and try to propagate just in case.

1 likeGreat! Just make sure the roots are white and firm. Don’t be afraid to clip what’s mushy. I also sometime clip leaves when I do this. You want more roots than there are leaves. Don’t stress about it. We are live and learn. Just enjoy playing with the dirt.
1 like Ok perfect! I checked it and cut off all the dead and added perlite to her soil, thank you so much for the reminder to enjoy them when they start dying it’s hard to remember to enjoy them so thank you so much for that o really appreciate it!💚

I would unpot it and check for root rotting. Is it in bright light? Are the leaves crisping? Or getting mushy? Yellowing at all or just browning? Have you ever fertilized it?
1 like Here’s the roots of one that is browning and one peace did fall off that seemed like root rot but would that little bit do that??? It’s about 1 foot from a window, they were mushy then would crisp up, it’s never yellowed just went straight drown and died…. I haven’t ever put fertilizer on her. I bought dirt that said it had slow release fertilizer in it so I didn’t want to kill her over fertilizing her if I can do that I’m not sure I’ve never fertilized any of my plants really?
As long as they are firm, they should be fine. Slow release fertilizer are only good for 2-6 months, the bag should say. So past that you would need to fertilize again. Either a liquid or osmocote or nutri make good slow release pellets you can work into the top of the soil

1 like It will definitely help with growth. I fertilize year round. But generally people do every 2-3 weeks during the warmer months.

It could be your watering it to much and also check for root rot and change out your soil, try to use a chuck soil mix that has orchid bark, perlite and any indoor potting mix! Also cut off any dead leaves!!

If it’s firm and not mushy and brown, I would clean the roots and sanitize them and stick it water. Sometimes it’s better to start over with propping it instead of planting it.

Move it to a plastic pot if the clay pot is too drying. I only have a couple of them because I over compensate and kill my plants when watering a clay pot. 😁
