Hi! Brand new plant parent here. I have 3 pothos, a Manjula, Golden and a Snow Queen. All 3 have developed this mold-looking substance on the top of their soil. What am I doing wrong for this to happen? How do I fix it? I've attached photos of all 3. None are in pots with drainage holes, because of this I make sure the soil is entirely dry before watering them again. They're about 3.5ft from a window where they get bright indirect light almost all day. They're all not even 3 weeks old, to me. I also use a natural pesticide spray that I've attached a photo of too.

    Mold and other fungus thrive on soil that stays wet too long. It’s unsightly. But, typically not an issue that needs to be fixed if the plants are healthy. A commercial fungicide can get rid of it. You can just flip over the soil and let it dry out more. I highly recommend using pots with drainage holes to avoid root rot. Watering issues, especially overwatering, are the primary cause of new plants dying especially for new plants owners. 🪴🍀

    Hello!! this happend to my pothos since i was overwatering!! I just got a spoon and scooped up the fungus off the top, and neem oil is a natural fungicide that will prevent the fungus from ever showing up again!!

      Thank you so much! I plan on scooping the top layer of soil out today, I also picked up some neem oil to try out. Is neem oil something I should be adding routinely or just on an as needed basis?
