Remove the pot and check the roots. Repot it a well draining soil if there are more roots than soil. Choose a pot that is 1 inch or 2 inches wider than the current pot.

Pothos plants are beautiful and easy going. You can cut the leaf with the brown tip. Water it every two weeks or so if indoors. You can give it a “haircut” every few months. Enjoy!

Do you only water every two weeks? My pothos seems to be dry every few days indoors?

Debbie It all depends on your soil and your environment in your home- how much light/humidity, etc. Also, when was your last repot? Sometimes needing to water that often means the roots have over taken the pot

If your pot has drainage holes and your roots are growing out of it, that’s a sign it’s ready to repot! Usually when you repot you only want a pot that is .5-1 inch wider than the root width

That should not be the only sign to use to make a decision to repot. Roots coming out of the pot bottom can be caused by standing water in the drainage saucer attracting the roots to tap into the water. You really have to look at all the roots by removing the pot or risk repotting too soon. Excess soil holds more water than the plant can use causing the roots to sit in water too long. This leads to root rot, fungal growth and creates an environment that breeds fungus gnats and other insects.

Never said it was the only sign to look for! I don’t think people have time to constantly be taking their plants out of pots to check roots. The plant community should be a kind place, not a rude and condescending place!

There are a lot of variables that cause the soil to dry at different rates. So, watering by calendar dates won’t fit every plant. Water when the plant needs water. This means checking the soil for moisture with a wooden skewer or similar tool. My pothos outside needs water every 2 to 5 days depending on the size of the plants and pots. Additionally, my zone 9a environment has high heat and high humidity. I check the soil everyday.
