    General rule of thumb for indoor houseplants is that you want the pot to be 1-2 inches bigger than the size of the root ball, definitely no bigger than 2 inches, so I’d do whatever pot matches closes to that. I lean more towards 1 inch to try to prevent overwatering personally.

    So does the black pot fit that? It’s so hard for me to tell haha. It felt like it was constricted in the black pot but I tried re-potting and I guess the white pot was just way too big

    I agree with Madison, you wamt a pot thats 1-2 inches bigger than the root ball. You could also check the roots and trim any mushy rotten ones. Also if you'd like, you can kind of wrap your pothos around the top of the soil of your pot to have some of the aerial roots that grow from the nodes to grow into the soil to get a fuller look, but thats peesonal preference for people.

    My first thought after looking at only one vine in the pot is ask what look are you trying to achieve with the plant? Do you want a full lush pot like they sell at a nursery or are you trying to grow one long vine to increase length? I would chop and prop all of it in water to get several small plants with 2 nodes each. I would aim to get a full pot dense with leaves. I would use a pot just big enough to hold all the rooted cuttings. I would abandon the cutting attached to the root system in the photo. The soil looks dense and muddy. I would use a soil with lots of perlite and small orchid bark chips or coconut husk chunks for good drainage when potting up the rooted cuttings. I would still recommend changing out the muddy soil if your goal is to only grow one long vine. Good drainage helps prevent root rot. I would not increase the pot size until the plant adjusts to the new potting mix. 🪴🍀

      Okay thank you, I took three cuttings off and propagated them in water and put the vine in a smaller pot with fresh soil

      That’s good. 👍 Pothos are easy to propagate in water. Give it bright light and place at least one leaf node under water at all times. Change the water when it’s cloudy or about once a week. Pothos cuttings create their own rooting hormone that encourages new roots to emerge. Some people only change out half of the water to keep some of the hormones. Fertilize with diluted liquid fertilizer when roots emerge. Transfer to a well draining potting mix when the roots are at least 2 inches long. 🪴🍀
