Hi friends! I’ve taken a cutting of my marble queen Pothos and am propagating it in water, which I have done many times before. However this time, there seems to be this strange white growth on the roots, underwater. It seems to be quite attached to the plant when I tried to remove it, as I assumed it was some sort of mould, but now I’m not so sure. Has anyone seen this before? Or know what it is? Thanks!
Are you changing the water out every 4-7 days?? Looks like there’s some algae in the glass, if you don’t dump out the old water, rinse the roots & change water frequently, bacteria & algae can build up in there. Also, your plant isn’t get oxygen either with stagnant water- I’d say try to rinse it off under the sink & give the glass a good clean + new water to start. Could be harmless? That’s my best advice ❤️ good luck!

What about the natural rooting hormone that pothos excrete? Wouldn’t you just be dumping that down the drain? I add the tiniest amount of hydrogen peroxide to my water to keep the rooting hormones in there. Am I wrong? I’d love criticism

You can leave your cutting in water for as long as the water is clean :) I’ve had great success especially with pothos just letting them chill— but if you get stuff in the water like the algae in OP’s pic, it’s best to change it for the cutting’s overall health

hi! in my experience pothos almost bleed their natural rooting hormone. i change my water and rinse weekly and it has not slowed down. the white you see is called root primordia! your pothos is happy and trying to expand its root system.
