Hi fellow pothos parents! I have one plant that has been growing so well! But when I watered it the other day I noticed roots sticking out through the drainage holes. My first thought was to repot it thinking that the plant has gotten too big for the pot that it’s in. But I’m afraid to repot because it’s growing so well I don’t want to shock the plant and potentially kill it. It’s still growing new leaves. Should I repot it?
I don't typically repot pothos until they're super rootbound but if you do chose to repot, it may go into shock. If it's not showing physical signs of needing a repot( yellowing leaves, soil drying really quickly) I would just leave it

My pothos have always been okay with repotting, they haven’t shown signs of shock. If you’re keeping the same soil mixture and aren’t worried about the state of the roots, you probably don’t have to break up the root ball when repotting, just pick it up and move it over and then fill in the gaps. It may reduce the risk of shock/issues

Remove the pot and look at all of the roots before making a decision to repot. Those stray roots could have grown only to soak up water in the ceramic outer pot. That’s not a reason to repot. Repot when the roots take up more volume than the soil or the roots are blocking the drain holes causing yellowing and root rot. Repotting too early can lead to root rot from excess soil and water.🪴🍀

My satin pothos did this, but it was incredibly root bound, and that is the only time I would probably repot it.
좋아요 1개If you’re repot, I recommend doing it when your aren’t going to water them yet. Give them time to get used to the new soil and new environment, then a few days later water them. That way they aren’t overstimulated
