Hi friends! A random water question. As some of you might also be experiencing, we are having a drought in the northeast. I’m wondering ways I can repurpose water to use for my plants and thought about pasta water after I make pasta? (Chickpea pasta if that makes a difference!) Curious if anyone else has done this, or found other ways to repurpose water so that our plant friends stay hydrated too? Here’s a planty pic for ambiance 🥰

I’m not sure if you salt your pasta water but that would probably be a no go if you do

I’m sorry I don’t have input, but I have to ask where you got your pole that the plant is climbing in the center?!

Hi! It’s the Treleaf “Zella wooden extendable plant support.” (Won’t let me link it!) I have two and so far so good! Plus they are cedar and smell so nice!

For pasta water, it can be used as a thickener in sauces and soups, a replacement for regular water if you make your own bread dough, or use a little bit to rehydrate your leftover pasta. It also freezes well so you can store it for quite some time if you're not going to use it all up right away. As far as repurposed water for plants, rain water, water left in the bottom of your cup/bottle, and fish tank water all come to mind. Fish tank water is pretty heavy on nutrients though, so I normally dilute 50/50 with tap water and only use it when I need to fertilize the plants.

I’ve seen Epic Gardening on YouTube repurpose their water but they only do the shower and the laundry and have this whole system thing. Also they use products in the shower and in the laundry that are organic and won’t cause any harm to the plants or put chemicals in the water. I wonder if you put a stopper in the shower while you’re taking one and then put a bucket over the area to catch as much water as you can, while using the specified organic products.

If you blanch veggies, that water is probably also good (parboiling vegetables). My mom always saved water from washing dishes (we make our own soap)
