I personally gauge repots by the time in between waterings. It can be difficult with newer plants, but if I notice my soil drying very quickly between waterings (within a few days), I will usually repot them.

0 Me gustaI have plants that have just been repotted, say within the month, and they dry out daily; it is so much work and such an annoyance to water them every day! I don’t know if it’s because I used a very airy type soil, or what. I don’t feel I should have to repot since I’ve just done that, but do you know why some plants can dry out so quickly and need so much water? I’m so afraid I’m going to drown them and they are going to die of root rot. TIA for any comments. 🤗💚🪴
1 me gustaIf your mix is super chunky, it is natural for it to drain quickly. I will usually top water my bottom to wet all the soil, then let it sit in a shallow tray of water for about 30 minutes to an hour to soak up more water into the soil. Especially if your mix is EXTREMELY chunky, it may air out quickly. In the photo here, it seems they are using a regular potting mix or the nursery mix, so it should not be drying out very quickly at all
1 me gustaIf it’s severely root bound, it will actually start eating the dirt! So if you notice the soil level going down, time to repot!
