My golden pothos has taken a sudden turn for the worse and I can’t figure out what the deal is! It’s a single stem I’ve grown from a cutting, and has been in a small hanging planter with drainage the whole time. It has good / large new growth towards the end of the vine, but all of the older leaves are dying off? It also has a ton of these brown bumps growing off of it, I assumed that are part of the climbing aerial roots but am not 100% sure? Should I just cut off the dying part and try to propagate again?

    I also have a Golden Pothos, and I’m currently in the process of propagating it and growing some new growths from it. I could be wrong but I believe those brown bumps you are referring to would actually be roots if they happened to be submerged in water etc.

    You can cut it all the way to the base of the plant leaving one or two nodes the rest propagated it in water. The bumps are future roots. You could also check the roots for root rot and inconsistent watering causes leave loss faster.

    could be overwatering, but also note that a lot of vining plants will kill older leaves on the vine simply because those leaves are old. vining plants need regular pruning to keep growth bushy and full

      I think this is what’s happening. All the new leaves at the end are getting bigger and bigger and doing great, I think it just wasn’t getting enough light to support all of the leaves!

      yurp classic. i would check the roots just in case, but it's probably lighting. older leaves just aren't as good at producing energy and if the plant feels the need to get rid of them, they come off 🤷‍♂️ i've had a bunch of my vines do this exact thing in the past.

    I don’t find when it looks like this that those leaves bounce back. I would cut it back, give it a little fertilizer and sunshine. If you don’t want to try that, start the cuttings again and start over.

      No, it’s a mix of perlite and systemic granules in the soil!

    Support their weight as they venture out. I loosely place a ponytail holder then hang that on a hook allowing for growth. They really strengthen up then.
