Kind of a multi-question post here lol I started propagating and everything seems to be going really well. I have lots of roots and planted some in pots already. Some are long enough to plant in soil now and a couple seem to be struggling… still alive and kicking, but no roots to speak of yet and a couple now have leaves growing in the water which really has me baffled. So here are my questions: 1. Does anyone know what that white stuff is on my one cutting? 2. Do new leaves often grow under water and, if so, how to I transfer to soil? 3. If new roots haven’t formed after 4 weeks of propagation, is it a lost cause? Even if the cuttings look healthy?

    2. Yes sometimes leaves grow under water, when adding water only fill the jar till it covers the roots. When you transfer to soil all leaves should be above the soil. 3. Some propagations might need more light or warmer temps. I’ve experimented with props and instead of changing the water I just add more. I only use distilled water for that prop, so far the roots are healthy and growing in just 2 weeks.

I know nothing about the plant you are propogating, but the white things look like the root buds I got when I was propagating my gypsy pepper plant.

Yes, I think so too. I looked up soft scale and it doesn’t quite look like that in person. I’ve been really diligent with cleaning my plants, so I’m hoping it’s not bugs….

Agreed. It’s not scale if it’s developing underwater because breathing 😂
