Hi everyone aim newish to pothos care and got this plant about 2 months ago! My plant has been losing leaves and droopy for some time now. I thought it was b/c of under watering, and gave it more water but it hasn’t improved at all (I usually see improvement the day after with my underwatered plants). When I watered it the soil was completely dry but now I think there might be root rot? Any advice from more experienced members? 😭

Have you checked the roots? If there is rot, you should remove it. Definitely looks like a watering issue.

Definitely, needs to be repotted ASAP, I lost my pothos this way, thought I had it in a well draining pot (but it had an attached drainage tray and I didn’t check if it worked, turns out the company glazed the “hole” shut from the tray🙄), thanks Lowe’s lol

Pull it out to check for rot — use your eyes and your nose! It could be hydrophobic soil? When you water does it run straight through or sit on top for a long time? Both indicators of hydrophobic soil. That is a tiny nursery pot and while pothos don’t mind being a liittle root bound, you should get it into something just a bit larger, like one size, UNLESS you find rot, then you need to treat that and stay small until the roots developed

I recommend taking the plastic pot out of that oversized ceramic pot. The ceramic pot can block airflow needed to dry out the soil faster. The soil could be staying wet too long leaving the roots in water too long. It looks pale for a pothos. Give it at least 8 hours of bright light a day. Pothos plant can live in low light. But, they thrive in bright indirect sunlight or a grow light. Add fertilizer every two weeks in warm months when it’s growing. Both light and fertilizer will help grow the plant. A healthy plant uses more water and will dry out the soil faster.🍀🪴

Update: it looks like it was a root rot issue. I was confused because the soil was completely dry before and Dr planta rec I water it more so 🥲 I took the surviving parts of the plant and placed them in small bottles of water with liquid fertilizer to encourage growth. Not sure if that’s recommended or if I should just put it directly in new soil?

You did the right thing here!! I had a similar issue with my Pothos, stuck her in water, and now she’s full of life again! I’d keep in water until she develops secondary roots (roots coming off the main root) 🥰
