I have 4 separate golden pothos plants that all continue to put out gorgeous leaves, but it’s becoming a little unmanageable to water. I just spilled soil all over my bathroom trying to untangle the vines down from the hanging basket. Do I chop and prop?
I vote definitely! I continually chop and prop all of my Pothos. I prefer the full look to the viney look. The few that I let vine are always a challenge to water.
3 likesThis is my big girl that goes out to the covered porch in the summer. When anything reaches the ground, I chop and prop. Gets crazy fun variegation in the summer.
Which size pot are your full ones in?
0 likesThe ones on the racks are 7, 8 and 9 inch nursery pots and the big one is pretty big. I just tried to measure but she’s in the way. 😂 I want to say it’s 18 or 20 inch. She’s been in there a good while.

I just this morning tried wrapping mine around a little trellis thing in the pot. Then took that apart and tried to figure out how to drape it. Seeing you post this, has convinced me I should chop mine. I love how beautiful yours looks, but I can see how unmanageable that must be and now I’m scared, lol.

I would chop and prop. Not only for the fuller look but also so the vines don’t accidentally get damaged and/or broken. It would be a bummer to have to chop and prop because they broke! So I would do it preemptively.

I JUST did this to 2 of my pothos that had vines longer than 6’. One I chopped and evened out all the vines length to make more of a ‘curtain’ effect. And the other I chopped and propped and twirled a couple shorter vines round the top that will hopefully root down and make my plant bushier. They prop suuuuuuuper easy in water also, so you could use the props to fill out the pot if you wanted too.

1 like My marble just got upgraded to a 8” pot bc it was starting to gets loads of yellow leaves and roots were poking out from the bottom of the pot. My manjula and Lemon Top are both in 6” pots and doing super happy (tho I’m considering putting my lemon top into one of my clear 6” which is a deeper pot so I can monitor roots) They like to be tight in their pots so you prob won’t have to repot regularly. I think I went from a 4” to a 6” early last year on my marble; so def more than a year between repots.

So timely - I have two pothos that have grown so much this summer that the vines are so long and I have been thinking about whether I want to chop and prop and make a fuller plant versus trellis. Think that’s the way to go. Thanks!

I was super sad the first time I cut my marble; then I saw how easy it was to prop so this time round it wasn’t as hard. It’s for the best and Lookit how many cool new plants you have!

I had the exact same experience as Snowstorm. Propped my global green after marauding cats destroyed a lot of its long vines, and now I don't feel bad at all when I cut a chunk because I'm just making a whole family for the original plant
