Hi everyone! My poor pothos has continued to decline, I increased humidity and it perked up for a few days but has started to yellow. I decided to check for root rot or pests but all looks good to me? I’m wondering if I need to repot in a bigger pot but I’m not sure if he’s root bound or not?

I don’t know if I’d classify that as root bound either. But from personal experience, my pothos was doing the exact same thing with random leaves yellowing and her roots looked like that. Repotted her into the next size up and she hasn’t done that since

Seconding what BigGrac said: not quite “root bound”, but the amount of thick “tap roots” coiled around the outside are a sign that it’s ready for a repot. Also, it’s hard to tell from a picture, but that soil looks a little dry to me. You might consider giving it a good water a few days before repotting (perhaps a bottom-water so it has 10-15 minutes to really soak up some moisture). Then it won’t need more water as badly immediately after you repot it, and in turn, you won’t have to stress as much about the potential for overwatering that comes with moving to a larger pot size. Your mileage may vary, but that’s what I generally do.

He’s in a 4in diameter pot atm, what size would you recommend upgrading to? Thanks so much!!

I try to not go past 150% of the existing pot size. So that would put you in a 6 inch pot. Pothos are pretty resilient though, you may be able to get away with something larger. But 6 inches should be a safe bet.

All of my plants are having a few leaves go yellow and die and they seem to slow down growth wise. As far as I am aware and from what I have experienced this is all normal for this time of year when they are not in their peak growing season. Every winter this happens to all of my plants and they always recover. I just make sure that all my plants are near windows with good light.
