PLEASE HELP!!! Iā€™m pretty new to the indoor plant life, and I think Iā€™m starting to get the hang of it- so I went to a plant show recently (7 days ago as of this post) and purchased this mug from one of the vendors. (Their schtick was they only used up-cycled coffee mugs and add holes in the bottoms, so yes, it DOES have drainage. The lady told me they are 2 different plants- the longer one on the left a Baltic Blue Pothos, and Iā€™m not sure what the one on the left is, I was thinking maybe a golden pothos? I set them in on my plant shelf in the corner by the window, where they get some indirect light, as the window faces north, & then curled the vines up through the posts of the stand as pictured. Iā€™ve watered them maybe 2 times. I moved the mug to the second shelf for the vines to curl up around the base too- And theyā€™re DYING!!!!! Please help!!! I have no idea what I did wrong.. the leaves are yellowing and just dying. Please please help I was so excited about these guys & now I feel like a failure as a Pothos parent šŸ˜­šŸ˜­ Are they not getting enough light? Too much water? What am I doing wrong hereā€¦ Any and all advice would be GREATLY appreciatedā€¦ First photo is the day I got them, the others are current- 7 days later. I did move the rest of my plants and remove the glass to get better photos.

    Watering 2 times in 7 days feels like a lot for a couple of plants with so few leaves. For instance I'm watering once every 10 days or so atm with this pothos philodendron mix. It's much easier to overeaters pothos rather than under water.

      That makes sense- I have a large mister jug thatā€™s about 1 liter I use for most of my guys, so I wondered if I didnā€™t water it enough. I only recently added the plant on here & also recently learned itā€™s SO much worse to over than underwater like youā€™d said. Iā€™m also wondering if itā€™s not getting enough light either? Yours looks like itā€™s got a good shine on the leaves. At first I had it on top & woven around the top of the shelf, but when I moved it to the second shelf I essentially moved it to the very back & behind the rest of the plants. Do you think that could be a contributing factor as well??

    Hi there, I would gently take it out and inspect the condition of the roots first. Brown/black/mushy indicates rot. If the roots are ok considering this plant has lost leaves and is looking leggy, I would propagate it in water. Luckily pothos varieties propagate easily. Cut so that you have 2-3 nodes per cutting (the ā€˜joinā€™ bit on the stems where the leaves grow from and where you may see aerial root nubs). You need to cut between 2 nodes. I like to trim so that the node that will go into the water has about 1/2ā€ to 1ā€ of stem underneath it. If the original roots are mushy or rotten, cut them off with clean snips and plonk that end into water as well. Or if the roots are fine, either wash them and add them to the water prop or repot back into soil. Taking the plant out will give you a chance to inspect the soil it was in too. Dry? Wet? Draining ok? They should give you some clues. Not sure if the photos were taken at night but perhaps consider a different position for your plant too. I like to try to put it near a window so that it can see the sky all day without getting any sun on the leaves to avoid burn. Hopefully that helps but please feel free to ask any questions.

      Update, most of the leaves are falling off now. Iā€™ll send a picture of the shelf in comparison into the window and the other plants that are on it. I seem to be killing quite a few othersā€¦ I think it may be what was mentioned, not enough light and Too much water. As I said before itā€™s in the north facing window, so itā€™s not getting any direct light. Itā€™s mostly shaded, especially with awning on the house. My plan is to move it to the south facing window. I have a sunroom in my room. I just thought they looked really pretty in the dining room. I have two golden Pothos I got from my mother, she has about four of them lol, I am propagating them in water, she has left hers and empty wine bottles filled with water, and they are absolutely thriving. Thereā€™s about 4 to 5 vines in each bottle, she also has another golden pot in a hanging pot thatā€™s doing great as well. With the Baltic blue, would I possibly be able to just leave it in water? I just love the look of the roots through a clear glass. If any of the roots are salvageable, I will most likely put that in a pot, but with any propagates, would I be able to leave a couple of them in water for their lifespan?

    Itā€™s only been a week with this plant so my first thought is the plant is acclimating to its new environment. Secondly, watering twice a week seems like a lot. Especially being in a north facing window where it would get the least amount of light (Unless you live down under where itā€™s opposite to most of the world). Those last two I mentioned are tied in together. If it doesnā€™t get as much light, the plant wonā€™t soak up as much water. This will in turn leave the soil wet. Now, adding even more water will not allow the soil to dry out. It will only drown the roots that can also potentially rot the roots. With that said, Iā€™d gently pull it out and inspect the roots as mentioned above. If the roots need to be trimmed of rot and can be saved, Iā€™d move it to a smaller pot as it would have just been trimmed down. Then, I would cut it back and propagate a portion of the plant because the roots have just been cut, it will likely, no longer be able to support the excess growth. Then just give it time and less love.

      These are the two golden Pothos I got from my mother, I could do the same with any propagates I get off the Baltic blue?

      (See reply on above comment lol) thank you so much!! I may have a question about cutting the roots, as I have a pretty significant history with root rot and I have never cut roots before !

      When trimming the roots, youā€™ll be looking for dark mushy portions. Trim a little bit beyond the rotted section to ensure no lingering rot is still on the plant. Remove all the rot you can. If you feel like you have missed some, soak the roots in hydrogen peroxide mixed with a good amount of water. This will help with sterilization of the roots.
