This may be a silly question but is there a bad time to repot? I got this from Lowe’s yesterday (sry for posting Goldie again lol) I’m in NJ so it’s still cold. This is my first pothos in soil

Some people say to only repot in the spring but if it stays as an indoor plant, personally I would say go ahead and repot whenever your plant needs it. Since you just got it especially from a big box store I would say give it a few days at least just to let it acclimate to its new environment and then you can go in and check your root health. Otherwise you’ll probably stress it out too much Hope this helps.

I read that it was best in spring too but also I read I should change it because of it being a big box store so I was torn lol it’s not as perky as yesterday so I hope it’s because it’s adjusting

Yeah. Usually I do a 3day rule for all of mine but I have my exceptions (plants that belong in chunky soil) especially if I see the soil seems soaked and not just wet(cause big box stores suck at that lol) and put my babies in healthy (chunky) soil mix.

I agree. If it is an indoor plant, you can repot at any time. Our big box stores here are terrible at taking care of plants, so any time I’m tempted to bring a plant home I isolate it for at least a few days to treat for pests. I usually repot pretty quickly upon bringing them too bc the soil is either super wet and I want to check the roots or the soil is crummy and I’d rather use something better for the plant and easier for me to manage. Sometimes the plant goes through shock, but not always, and they always rebound. Just give it some TLC if it does, but things should turn out fine. I ‘rescued’ a couple last week and they’ve already perked back up. Good luck!

How do you treat it for pest, I’m open for all opinions and takes? I have a pothos in water which is much easier to maintain

      Any soil/fert. Recommendations?

I have a few steps for treating. First thing I do for all plants is give them a shower, spraying water all over and into every crevice. If I see mealies, I’ll use a mix of water and rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle. If I don’t see any pests I’ll preventatively spray need oil or dead AF. That usually does the trick.

I make a chunky mix tailored to the plant. I use a combo or just some of the following; nonpeat potting soil, perlite, charcoal, coco coir, bark, leca. ChatGPT has been super useful in helping me tailor the soil ‘recipe’ to each plant.

And, for fertilizer, I use plant food and bug hut. I’ve used bug hut for the past month and have noticed significant growth and lots of new leaves in the past two weeks, so may stick with that.

No, there's no bad time to repot indoor plants. I repot indoor plants year round. Since the temp doesn't fluctuate to freezing inside, full dormancy is very rare. I do use Mycorrhizal on the roots to help with any transplant shock, and a light fertilization

      What is mycorrhizal

It is beneficial fungi, comes in a powder or sprinkle usually, though there's also liquid. It promotes healthy root growth as well as nutrient uptake. They're often paired with beneficial bacteria as well. Since I've started using it i get great root growth, but also almost 0 transplant shock issues. Bigfoot and Great White /orca are three good options. And a little goes a long way, so they last long while. Even with 300+ plants

Thank you for that. If I may ask how much/often do you use it? I plan to give it a shower and repot later today. Would using fertilizer and mycorrhizal overkill for the plant?

I use the Mycorrhizal any time I repot. As well as a low fertilizer (you can dilute it or skip fertilizerif youre concerned, the main thing is the Mycorrhizal). If you don't have the Mycorrhizal when I've repot, if sprinkled it around the top of the dirt and mixed it in after.
