I finally got the guts to do it! I finally propagated my Golden Pothos, Watson. :) I put some masking tape on one of the jars (and will on the other clear one) to make the glass slightly darker. I tried to keep at least two leaves out of the water. The mother looks so incredibly weird right now. I’m praying she grows back because if not I’m genuinley screwed. Any advice?
Should I give them a pump of liquid fertilizer right away or wait a bit?

You can probably give it some fertilizer, and it should grow back in a few months. Pruning it is actually good for it, it helps with fuller growth. I just chopped off all the vines on my pothos because it was getting really leggy

Why the masking tape? It doesn’t hurt the roots to get light (as long as it’s not direct sunlight all day).
2개 좋아요 I saw an experiment where someone put the plant leg in a tinted glass so it was darker and the roots grew better, but if it’s not an issue then I can probably take it off so it looks a little less ugly :D

The piece in the brown bottle is upside down. The base (closest to the roots of the mother plant) is sticking out of the water while the growing tip is in the water. You can tell by the angle of the leaf stem. No need to block light from the roots as suggested. Plants in soil can grow in clear pots. The only drawback is algae can grow in the bottle if the bottle isn’t weekly cleaned. Check online photos of plants propagating in water. Most are in clear glass bottles. Begin fertilizing with diluted liquid fertilizer when the roots emerge. The new roots emerge within two weeks. You have to add more plants to the pot to get fullness. Place the rooted propagations back into the pot. You may need to get a new pot one inch larger to accommodate the cuttings. The mother plant needs more light. It’s leggy, etiolated, with large gaps between the leaf nodes. You can put it in a south or west window. You can run a grow light 12 to 14 hours within a foot of the plant. 🪴🍀
4개 좋아요 The thing is, my room is the only one I really have to myself, so it’s the only window I have to put it next to. I could try talking to my parents about getting a grow light, however they are pretty strict with nails in the wall of ceiling. 😅
0개 좋아요 They have grow lights that clip on, stand that alone like a table lamp and can stick inside the pot. No nails in the wall are needed. I’ve used clip on shop lights, about $15, with a large grow light. Got these from Lowes. You can add a grow light bulb to a lamp you already own. 🪴🍀
I got grow lights from walmart for mine and they also have the ones that goes in the pots too or stand ones. So it is possible..
