Have been water propping some healthy beautiful Pothos vines for a few months. Developed nice roots, so moved her from water to soil. First pic is 1/3; second pic is today, 1/13 😬 over/underwatered? Too much sun? Please help?! She’s in a semi gritty mix. Pot has drainage. TY 🙏
It doesn’t look like too much light to me with the way the leaves are yellowing. I’d have to ask a couple questions to diagnose more properly if you don’t mind: When did you last water it? When you stick your finger or a toothpick into the soil, is it wet or dry? How big was the pot compared to the size of the roots? What kind of light does it currently receive, and if it’s by a window what direction does the window face?
2 likes Thank you for taking the time to ask! I watered her yesterday 1/12, before that was when I repotted on 1/3 as I didn’t want to drown the young roots. Soil was dry when I stuck my finger in about an inch or two. Pot may be too big (4in ceramic), to your point but I figured it would need room to grow 😬 I had it on my plant swing in the kitchen window getting direct-indirect light (south facing window) for about 8 hrs/day — tho it’s been very overcast most of this month, not sure if that matters. Moved her to my greenhouse breezeway for now, farther from the direct light.

Water grown roots are more delicate than roots grown in perlite/ soil - that pot looks to be a bit too large for cuttings. I would downgrade to a small nursery pot and make sure the soil is nice and chunky so the roots can breath and aren’t sitting in too much moisture.

0 likes Yes— a 2–3” nursery pot with good drainage is perfect. In my experience, the biggest shock usually happens during the move from water to soil, but with a few simple tweaks the roots will bounce back well. I’ve had the best luck potting them fairly snug (I’d go with the 2” pot). This helps the roots adjust and grow stronger without sitting in excess soil and moisture. Mixing in orchid bark and perlite creates a nice chunky blend that boosts airflow while still holding just enough moisture. 🙂🪴
