I’ve been researching but keep seeing numerous different causes and am hoping to narrow it down… my pothos has been extremely slow to drain water lately, like the water will just sit on top of the soil for awhile. I believe this plant is definitely due to be repotted as it never has been before, but is this the reason why the water isn’t being absorbed?

    The soil could be hydrophobic

Do you know how one goes about fixing this?

Soak it from the bottom for an hour or so and see if softens up and you can remove the soil as much as you can and replace with new soil

Also, check the roots to see if there are blocked drain holes. My pothos plants grow out the drain holes when there is water under the pot. Root bound plants can be another cause when they weave a basket structure blocking water flow. Spider plants often do that.
